Why it’s important to say ‘I appreciate you’

We have lost so many rituals this year – weddings, funerals, proms, graduations. We can use Teacher Appreciation Week to make sure we don’t lose this opportunity to appreciate our teachers – because we can, and because they deserve it.

Learning scientists also tell us that a grateful attitude is essential when life doesn’t go as planned. It helps us cope with hard times, it energizes and heals us. According to a 2012 study on the topic, grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier than other people. It improves psychological health by reducing such toxic emotions as envy, resentment, frustration and regret. So, let’s get started by expressing our gratitude to our teachers.
